Kinder Grad Program

We’re giving Oregon kindergarteners a head start!

It’s never too early to start saving for a child. That’s why the Oregon College Savings Plan has created a program to support parents of kindergarten students who do not already have an account. Simply open an Oregon College Savings Plan account and we will automatically make a $25 contribution—kick starting your kindergartener’s college savings journey!

Saving for your child is a smart choice. A study done by the Center for Social Development showed children with even a small college savings account were 2.5 times more likely to enroll in and graduate from college than children with nothing set aside for college. In addition, low- to moderate-income children with under $500 saved for college are 3 times more likely to go to college and 4.5 times more likely to graduate than those with nothing set aside for college.

How it works

Open an Oregon College Savings Plan account during 2019 or 2020 on behalf of a kindergartener and receive an automatic $25 contribution from the Oregon College Savings Plan.

The Oregon College Savings Plan is a state-sponsored 529 plan that comes with special tax advantages and can be opened by just about anyone—parents, family, friends, even future students. The money saved in the Oregon College Savings Plan grows tax-free and can be used for qualified expenses like tuition, books, room and board, computers and more.

Who is eligible?

Any individual 18 years of age or older who opens an Oregon College Savings Plan account on behalf of an Oregon kindergartener is eligible for the $25 contribution. An Oregon kindergartener is defined as any person living in Oregon who is 5 or 6 years old when the account is opened. There is a limit of one match per kindergartener.

Qualifying accounts will receive the $25 contribution within three months of the account being opened. Note: You will need the kindergartener's Social Security number to open an account — no need for his or her birth certificate.

Simply put, we’re here to help you save.
